Hijab Fashion Week – Day 2 – Hobby/Recreation

The second theme is Hobby/Recreation: What do you do when you have free time? (hike, sail, write, paint, etc.)

I picked Reading.

During my Masters course, I did so much reading for my course that it kind of put me off reading anything for fun for a couple of months. I’ve recently come back to it and I LOVE it! Reading is the way I relax. It transports me more to other worlds, and its something I can share with almost anyone I meet. I like to do my reading in bed, in my PJs, but for the purposes of this theme I couldn’t do that!

So I tossed on the shirt I am currently wearing over jeans and am proudly displaying one of my favourite books, The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. It’s a beautifully written book and I absolutely love it. I read practically anything. In my teens it was more about the vampire/fantasy genre (This was before Twilight, I was very into Harry Potter, Babysitter’s Club, Nancy Drew etc.)

Anyway, right now I’m wearing a very bright long tunic called a Kamiz, it’s actually part of a set along with the Shalwar or baggy trouser, but I didn’t want to wear that on camera. I’m wearing it with jeans, a purple Hijab and some flat shoes. As the sleeves of the top are a little short, I put on some purple arm sleeves, which are detachable, to add extra coverage. If you know me, you know I LOVE my flats and you can’t get me out of my trainers. I’m picky about my comfy footwear, so I don’t mind spending bit extra on them as I live in them.

Here’s the look:

Hijab Fashion Week Day 2

When I’m at home I tend to stick to traditional indian/pakistani clothes as I find them incredibly comfy. I’m one of those people who hate to be in jeans, I find them restrictive, so I only wear them when I’m out and about.

Hijab – Lilac (Not sure where from, probably some islamic store here in the north)

Top – Custom made Kameez

Arm sleeves – Lilac arm sleeves from Hijab Al-Muminat

Trousers – Blue bootcut jeans from Dorothy Perkins

Shoes – Beige ballerina shoes from Primark

What do you wear for your hobbies?

  1. I prefer traditional clothes at home too! :)

    Take care,

  2. Those must be pretty comfy jeans for you to be able to read in then ;)
I like the whole kameez over pants look!

    • They’re not comfy actually, but I make do. On the look out for comfy jeans inshallah!

  3. Cute outfit. :)

Try some jeans made from thinner denim or my new love… a cheapo pair of jeggings that I bought from Zara for $10! Of course, I can only wear them out if I’ve got an abaya or a maxi skirt on, but still…they’re super comfy. I think I even contemplated sleeping in them once simply because I was feeling too lazy to change into sweats/pjs!

    • I’ve been considering jeggings and skinny jeans actually! Might have to try some on and see how I feel, if only to wear around the house. Thanks for the tip!

  4. Love your kurti top dear~ so colourful!

    • Thank you dear!

  5. I have been looking for flat shoes that aren’t trainers that fit me and I just can’t find any! They fall off the back of my heel, or squish my toes. I’ve had to just wear trainers :( Frustrates me – got any tips on where to get some decent flats?

    • I bought my go to flats from a local shop here, but I find flat shoes that are soft and don’t have that hard front sole fits me better. It makes it impossible as not many shoes are that soft, but the rigid flats irritate my feet especially when you have to do a lot of walking. Just try on and see how you feel in them.

  6. I like reading too! it’s an amazing experience, well, it’s a great feeling. I recomendo to everybody who reads thi coment to read more books :)
I like your outfit, specially the colour of your hijab it suits you a lot!

    PD: what’s the book about?

    Salam :)
